In a recent column by Carol Liebeau she made the assertion that political correctness is “…designed to inject some civility into a secular world.” No doubt the Left would agree with that description but it could not be more inaccurate.
Political correctness has nothing to do with politeness, civility or consideration for the feelings of others. It is simply a means by which liberals restrict speech that is offensive to them, often because such speech reveals truths that they would rather not address. It is okay, for instance, to vilify Americans for their gun violence, but it is politically incorrect to point out that a disproportionate amount of that gun violence is committed by young, black men. It is okay to whine about poverty in America, but it is not okay to point out the strong connection between poverty and unwed mothers. In California you can bemoan the decline in education, but you can’t talk about the increasing burden schools face from the children of illegal immigrants.
The very term ‘political correctness’ was coined as a not-so-flattering means of describing the way the Left puts certain terms off-limits and misuses labels like ‘racist’ and “homophobe’ to stifle free debate over serious issues. Establishment of the PC code has allowed liberals to get away with the most disgusting behavior while at the same time they grow and nurture the myth that THEY are the people of compassion. It is nothing more than a means to extend the reach of leftwing propaganda.
